From Neil Gaiman's journal, there's a bit of pretty much unreported news that the government has decided to cut Closed Captioning funding to objectionable or controversial...

From a conversation with a friend about it, which he shared from elsewhere...

"So, if you're the parent of a deaf child, get ready to tell him or her that such upsetting programming like Dexter's Laboratory, Digimon, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Ed, Edd 'n Eddy may soon be inaccessible.

"Want more? Hard of hearing comic fans can go ahead and stop watching Justice League, X-Men Evolution, Archie's Weird Mysteries, Sabrina, The Animated Series, Teen Titans and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

"If your just a plain, old-fashioned deaf adult you'll be happy to learn that you'll be protected from filth like JAG, Law & Order, Malcolm in the Middle and The Simpsons.

"The specifics about the censorship panel are being kept under wraps. The names of the panelists and the guidelines that they worked within have not been revealed. In fact, one article suggests the panelists themselves did not realize that their opinions were being used in the way that they were. These choices are being made without any public scrutiny or oversight.

"It's a very puzzling turn of events and, I'm sure, disappointing for the hearing impaired who may wish to actually have the same choices the non-impaired enjoy."
