BoP Update

I have no idea why I've been spreading Birds of Prey news lately. It's there, it amuses me to watch AJ go squee.

BIRDS OF PREY FLY THE COOP - ISSUE #56 SOLD OUT AT DC!

Only 24 hours after its on-sale date of June 18, BIRDS OF PREY #56 has sold out at DC Comics. This issue features the debut of the new creative team of writer Gail Simone (Agent X) and artists Ed Benes and Alex Lei (SUPERGIRL).

"This is very exciting news," says Simone. "Ed's doing the best work of his career, really putting his heart into this book, and it's just cool to see readers responding so enthusiastically. We have plans in these next two arcs that nobody will be expecting - not-to-be-missed stuff!"

"I was dancing around my living room the night I first read Gail's script, and then it felt like Christmas when I saw Ed's and Alex's amazing artwork," says series editor Lysa Hawkins. "I knew it was a good book... and I'm thrilled that the fans seem to think so as well. Go, team, go!"

"This issue is a very strong start for the new creative team, and readers aren't showing any hesitation in picking it up," says Vince Letterio, DC's Manager - Direct Sales. "We have no doubt that upcoming issues will sell just as quickly as this one has."

BIRDS OF PREY #56 features the first part of the 4-part story arc "Of Like Minds," which pits the Birds against master extortionist Savant. DC has no plans at this time to go back to press on this issue.

Retailers are reminded that BIRDS OF PREY SECRET FILES 2003 (APR030155) will reach stores on June 25 with a lead story written by Simone and a Black Canary Profile Page with art by Benes and Lei.
