MST3K Rewatch Week 81 - Gamera

If you're paying attention, you know I'm just rewatching the MST3K DVD sets in order, and this week's movie being Gamera means I've reached volume 21, the Gamera boxed set.  So yes, that means five straight weeks of giant turtle monster movies from Japan. =D

The first Gamera movie, just titled Gamera, involves an accidental atomic explosion freeing a long-trapped mythical giant turtle from the Arctic ice.  He then proceeds to destroy Japan and befriend children.  In order to save everyone, he eventually gets launched into space.  Someone else's problem now!

I love Tom getting so emotional over Kenny's turtle being sent away.  It's almost touching, in a silly way.

This one had lots of fun interaction with the movie.  A bunch of peeking over things, around people, and Joel even kissed a guy!  Good bits of silliness there.

And you gotta love Crow making bad puns, getting his ARM TORN OFF! and beaten with it.

Gamera is classic MST3K.  They are firing on all cylinders with some great jokes, great fun with the movie, and even some fun host segments.  They had the advantage of having done the movie before (And all the other Gameras) so they had time to work out kinks and really refine them, and it totally shows.  Great stuff.
