Just a rant to get shit off my chest, I'm not really up for the debate of the right and wrong of stealing comics...
There's a new community I've seen around for the express purpose of posting and sharing entire issues of comics. Their rules amuse me greatly.
"Be respectful to others." This would apparently mean you only have to be respectful to other people posting on the comm, since the point of the community is to piss all over and disrespect the creators of the comics who might, y'know, like to get paid.
"Don't link to images without permission. Generally, this means host the images somewhere like imageshack or photobucket or your own webspace. If you'd like to use a text link to someone else's site who already has the stuff scanned, that's cool." Anyone see the major flaw here?
I'm all for getting permission to share stuff freely. If a creator(s) says it's ok, then yeah, spread the cheer. But I'm going to guess these people aren't going to Marvel, or many (I suspect none) of the writers/artists/etc about posting their works freely online. This rule is specifically for stealing images from other sites.
So reviewing this rule, stealing from other sites who've posted free content illegally, BAD! But since the comm needs content, that means that stealing from creators who are working hard to bring you this stuff, GOOD!
Edit: I love how the lone guy posting so far urges folks to go buy the stuff anyways, like that makes it all ok. If he wanted to entice people to go buy the stuff (Madrox was not a high-selling title by any means, and could certainly use the sales), you can get just the same effect with just a few pages, teasing and enticing. Whole issues certainly are not necessary, and would rather defeat the point. The comm has 100 members currently joined, and I truly wonder just how many will bother to go buy the Madrox TPB, when they essentially already have it. Or will tomorrow, once he's posted part five.
This all goes back to respect. It's one thing to share stuff, but this is just downright disrespectful of the creators. A comm for the purpose of promoting stuff is great, but this goes, IMO, too far.
