pissed offI'm pissed right about now. And that's only because I don't have a word for just how angry and upset I am.
I'm pissed at my local theatre. I'm pissed at Marvel. I'm pissed at DC for reasons that have nothing to do with their reboot! I'm pissed at James Cameron.
To name a few.
I FUCKING HATE 3D. I've made no secret of this. I think it is a pointless gimmick that ADDS NOTHING to a film. And anyone who says that you have to see a movie in 3D to really get it can go fuck themselves. That is an insulting statement to everyone who is simply unable to see the 3D effect.
I'd put my rage on hold for awhile after the local theatre decided it was time to put Tron Legacy in a theatre where everyone could see it, and not just the special people. At least I got to get out to the theatre to see it, and if they kept this up, I'd be able to see all the big summer movies I'm looking forward to, eventually.
So, I've been waiting and checking every week when the theatre updates their schedule for Friday and the following week, waiting for Thor to come up. Well, I looked today, and Thor is gone.
Completely.
No 3D, no regular version. There never was a regular version at the theare.
In an instant, my summer was ruined. Next summer. All interest in movies I have been dying to see? Gone. Thor. Cap. Avengers. Green Lantern. Other non comic book movies I can't remember right now because I'm blind with rage.
I've supported Marvel and DC for years in comics. I've helped their movie franchises. I've helped build everything that has enabled them to make these movies, these movies that should be a gift to all fans. But now can only be seen by the special people who can see 3D. This, to me, is a giant fuck you from the studios.
And THIS. THIS IS WHY 3D SUCKS. Plain and simple.
It is a special thing that only select people can see, and if you can't, well, guess what? FUCK YOU! You don't get to go see the movie! And hey, since 3D tickets cost more, 3D ticket sales are inflated and make the movies look more successful, so we keep making them to make more money! More 3D movies means more 3D movies, means less 2D movies, until you have no choice!
People laughed. THEY LAUGHED AT ME when I voiced these concerns a year ago. "Oh, Jason!" they said. "There will always be choice between the two! Calm down!"
I was calm. It was ok for awhile. And now, here we are, exactly where I feared we would be and getting worse. Thanks for laughing at me, assholes.
I AM CALM NO MORE. 3D has to stop. 3D has to GO THE FUCK AWAY. Until everyone can see it.
This is an exclusionist, discriminatory technology. This is NOT the future. This is a step backwards.
And that's not even getting into the technological and picture quality problems, this is just straight up "It don't work for everyone" issues.
