So, Thanksgiving, while trapped with family, I did have one interesting experience.

My brother-in-law got an iPad, and set the thing in my hands.

Now, I am no Apple fan.  I'm often pretty critical of them.  But there's something about the iPad...

I'd been wanting to get my hands on one for almost eight months now, just to experience it for myself, and especially to try out the keyboard.

While my options were limited, since I couldn't go buying apps on my brother in law's dime, so I wasn't able to delve into the Marvel app, for example.  But playing with everything else, really gave me a feel for how that all would work.

The typing was very natural and responsive, and I only had one typo.  And that was more because I was typing at an awkward angle than anything else.  I'd never type a novel on the thing, but for IRC or messaging?  I could roll with that.

For what the iPad does, it does well.

Keep that in mind; FOR WHAT IT DOES.  It is not a do it all device, and you know what?  There's nothing wrong with that!  If you want a full fledged laptop, go get that.  Go right now.  But for something that lets me consume entertainment in a VERY easy, very intuitive way?  Oh yes, I quite liked the iPad experience.  My laptop has just grown more frustrating over the years, and the iPad was a breath of fresh air.

My technolust for this shiny little gadget grew three times that day...

It's not a perfect device, and there's some things I wish it did differently or better, but for the most part, it is VERY solid.
