What's in a Name?

So, the Scifi Channel is changing its name to SyFy.

Why? Several reasons!

  • So they can trademark the name.

  • Because people like Star Wars and don't think of it as science fiction.

  • Because they want to distance themselves from nerds and 'anti social, dysfunctional boys in basements'.

  • Because girls don't like science fiction.

Man, there is so much I could rant about there, but I just don't have the energy these days. Aside from being able to claim the name for themselves, those last few reasons are all pretty crap. Do they really think that changing their name to SyFy will suddenly make people go, "Oh? It's SYFY? That's different! I am now able to watch Star Wars and not be embarassed!" Or people who don't watch science fiction (Silly people) will suddenly come around because now your channel name is a made up word?

*looks at his friends list* Gee, it's such a shame that girls don't like science fiction. Not a single one. ;)
