30 Dads of Night
My parents were watching 30 Days of Night yesterday, and my dad had one complaint.

"This movie is unrealistic.  A town in Alaska where that happens doesn't exist!"

"Uh, dad?  Vampires don't exist either..."

Thought I'd mix it up. ;)

The town is real, and they do live high enough that due to the tilt of the Earth they have a period of time without sun. However, unlike the movie, it's a kind of twilight and not entirely dark, and lasts more like 2-3 months. The population of the town is actually higher then whats depicted in the movie I think.

Yeah, I knew that Barrow was real, but not QUITE 30 days of night (Closer to 65 of their particular version, even). I opted to not get into it since my dad served in Alaska for a few years. But really, pointing out what's real and what isn't is just silly when vampires are running around. =)

He kept saying the description of the movie should say "In a town where it's dark for 23 hours out of 24 for 30 days of the year"

Tell your Dad I lived in Alaska for 14 years, and it is totally real.

We just didn't like to tell Lower 48'ers anything because we were afraid to lose the tourist dollars.
